Finding Career Interests
Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) for students with disabilities
Pre-ETS are the earliest set of services available to students with disabilities who may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services. (Students with disabilities do not need to be a Vocational Rehabilitation client to receive Pre-ETS services, but may apply for VR services at any time). They are designed to help students identify career interests, they also aid students in exploring and planning for successful future employment, through targeting training in:
Job Exploration and Counseling

- Discussion of job options/consideration of opportunities
- Foster motivation

Work-Based Learning Experiences

- Provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to help link school experience to real-life work activities

Counseling on Post-Secondary

- Exploration of career pathway options and labor market realities and projections
- Focus on how skill development and knowledge relate to opportunities in postsecondary education settings

Workplace Readiness

- Focus on the abilities and skills that enable employees to effectively interact with supervisors and co-workers

Instruction in Self Advocacy

- Instruction on an individual’s ability to communicate effectively and relay interest and/or desires.
- Emphasis is placed on taking responsibility for communicating one’s wants and needs

Here are the following eligibility requirements:

- 14-21 years old and still attending Post-Secondary Education and
- Eligible for and receiving services under the IDEA or section 504
- Enrolled in a secondary or postsecondary educational program
