2•1•1 Another Community Resource
211 is an easy-to-remember, three-digit number that connects people to the services they need, such as housing and utility assistance, food resources, legal aid, and more. There is a special section of 2-1-1, the community connection resource sponsored by United Way, that lists state-contracted providers for various programs. For example, those in services with the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) or on Medicaid can look here to find the appropriate providers. Categories include such topics as Disabilities, Respite and Shelter, and Evaluations. You can also find businesses or individuals who are already contracted to provide certain services.
Monthly Advocacy Tip: Review the happenings of the latest session and take inventory of lessons learned. If you were unable to advocate during the session, learn about what issues were discussed that may have affected your family by reading through legislation trackers and other resources.
