Supporting Families: UTA’s Paratransit Service and How It Can Help
At the Utah Parent Center, we understand how important it is for families to have reliable transportation options, especially when caring for children or loved ones with disabilities. That’s why we want to share information about the Utah Transit Authority’s (UTA) Paratransit Service, a valuable resource designed to make travel easier for individuals with physical, cognitive, or visual disabilities. Watch their introductory video below!
UTA’s Paratransit Service provides door-to-door transportation for those who are unable to use regular buses independently. This service helps families ensure their loved ones can get to appointments, school, therapy, or community events safely and comfortably. The service operates with curb-to-curb pickup and drop-off, meaning riders are responsible for getting to the bus at the pickup location and from the drop-off point to their destination. Families can rest assured that the service is designed to be accessible and accommodating. Riders are asked to be ready within a 30-minute window and to board the bus within five minutes of its arrival. For families, this means planning ahead and helping loved ones prepare for their trips.
Additionally, we encourage families to understand that UTA offers reasonable modifications to their services, in accordance with the ADA. Families can request accommodations if needed, and each request is reviewed carefully to ensure it’s fair and feasible. While some requests may be denied if they would significantly alter the service or create safety concerns, UTA strives to balance individual needs with community safety and sustainability.
