School Health Care Plans & Your Student
There are many students in school today living with special health care needs. Sometimes these health conditions develop into a medical emergency requiring administration of medicine or regular medical care management while at school. A health plan may be an option if your students’ school attendance or academic performance suffers due to their special healthcare needs. Prioritizing students for healthcare plans starts with identifying those whose health needs impact their daily school life. This includes students who:
- Have complex medical needs and require special care.
- Need frequent or extended health care from the school nurse or staff.
- Have health needs that must be managed every day.
- Have health needs that are included in their IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 plan.
If you feel your child may benefit from a health plan, contact your school or IEP team to discuss your student’s needs and see if it is right for them. Click on the links below for more information.
