Sibshops and Fun Learning Supports
Sibshops are a FUN, game-based support group for siblings of individuals with disabilities or special health care needs, offering a space to connect with others who truly understand their experiences. These sessions are led by Certified Sibshop Facilitators, who are themselves siblings of someone with a disability!
Sibshops provide a safe and fun environment where siblings can share their experiences, discuss their feelings, and learn how to cope with the complexities of having a brother or sister with special needs. The activities are engaging and varied, often including games, arts and crafts, and discussion groups, all facilitated by trained professionals or volunteers. Through Sibshops, siblings gain a better understanding of their own emotions and the dynamics of their family situation, while also developing friendships with peers who can relate to their experiences.
Here at the Utah Parent Center, our Sibling Project has a goal of hosting one Sibshop a month. We offer groups in-person and virtually on Zoom. We are finalizing the next series of sibshops so check out our events calendar for upcoming registration dates.
We have two age groups:
8-11 year olds
11-17 years old
SIbshops may be therapeutic for the children who attend, but they are not therapy.
