Functions of Behavior: Why is my child doing that?

This presentation will focus on why children engage in disruptive behaviors and will discuss some of the factors that can lead to behavior change. Understanding the “functions” of behavior is the first step to addressing and decreasing a challenging behavior. This will be presented by special guest speaker Morgan Schroeder, Ph.D. She is the founder of Seedling Behavioral Psychology in Draper, UT. At Seedling Behavioral Psychology, Dr. Schroeder works with children with developmental delays and empowers parents with the knowledge of how to respond to difficult behaviors and keep their kids safe. Dr. Schroeder earned her doctorate in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed her doctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Additionally, she completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County – Thompson Autism Center. Dr. Schroeder specializes in working with children with a variety of neurodevelopmental disorders–including Autism, ADHD, Developmental Delays, Intellectual Disability, Learning Disability, and Down Syndrome–and trains parents on decreasing challenging behaviors.
