Youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Foster Care

The rate of youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities in foster care has increased substantially since 2016. These youth face many challenges including: more likely to be unemployed, more likely to be impoverished or homeless and less likely to pursue higher education. Transition planning can be crucial for these youth before they age out of the foster care system. Check out this document, Transition Planning for Foster Youth with Disabilities_ Are We Falling Short_ which explains the need for proper transition planning supports and services and recommendations to make more successful outcomes for these youth from the Fostering Futures Project.
