Teaching Our Students Advocacy and Leadership – Student Led IEPs
March 25 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
- Did you know that once a student turns 14 they should be invited to their IEP meeting and involved in the process as much as possible?
- Did you know that one of the best opportunities for a student to learn self-advocacy is in their own IEP meeting?
- Did you know that when a young adult has a say in planning their future, they are more likely to be committed to making the plan work?
Students who have not participated in their IEP meetings often view the IEP process with fear or mistrust. They may not see how the goals relate to their needs. An added benefit of a student participating in the IEP is the building of self-esteem and commitment because the student feels like a partner in the process. Join us to learn how we can support our students in taking the lead in their own IEP meetings.
