November 19, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
The Utah Parent Center is excited to bring you a series of free classes to help with your child’s transition into adulthood. If your young adult is 13 to 22 years old; this series of classes is for you and your young adult to take together
Supported Decision Making, Guardianship, & Self-Advocacy:
When your student reaches their 18th birthday they will be considered an adult, even if they have a disability. This is an informational presentation to learn about the basics of guardianship and what other strategies you can use. You will learn the different types of guardianship and what steps can be taken to support your young adult. We will be going through supporting healthcare, financial and other needs as your child transitions to adulthood. With this class, you can personalize the resources out there to best meet your loved one’s needs.
It is important at this time to discuss their ability to self advocate. Being able to clearly state needs, wants and desires is linked to more happiness, being safer and future success at school and work. Come learn how you and your loved one can effectively advocate. Having a social life is critical, yet as school ends and we transition to adulthood it can become a real challenge. We will give you ideas, tips and tricks to making and keeping friends and connecting with your community. We will also talk about spirituality and how to nurture it for a meaningful and well rounded life. All faiths and beliefs will be respected.
