Back-to-School Essentials – IEPs and 504s
August 10, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
It’s time for the Back-to-School Essentials – IEP and 504 Plans
Whether it’s your first IEP meeting or your tenth, or you are requesting that your child be evaluated for an IEP, the experience can be stressful. Parents are important members of the IEP team. This workshop will help parents understand their role, rights and responsibilities in the IEP Process. Parents will also learn how to effectively prepare for, participate in and follow-up on IEP meetings held on behalf of their student.
Section 504 provides equal access and opportunities to individuals with disabilities. This may include equal access to education, academic services, and nonacademic settings such as extracurricular activities, meals, recess, and physical education through accommodations and supports. Accommodations include tools and procedures that provide access to general education instruction such as extended time on tests, adjusting student’s seating, using organizing tools, modifying recess/PE/transportation, etc. This workshop will help parents understand Section 504 and their role in working with school personnel to develop and implement a Section 504 Plan.
